Write more words by changing your routine! 💪 . I can be a bit of a master of procrastination. I find it soooo easy to justifiably distract myself and proclaim it is fine because I can pick up the work tomorrow. Especially during this unstructured work-from-home period, I was constantly letting myself drop the ball on my thesis work day after day and then feeling a mixture of guilt and overwhelm when I came to my desk the next day - leading me to repeat my procrastination cycle 😦 . BUT I decided to take back control of my routine and told myself I shall get these words done. I changed 5 aspects of my daily routine and these took me from writing 1000 words per week to 3000 words per week (all of the same quality!) 👩🏽‍💻 . The changes I made included waking up early, focusing on one section of my thesis a day and hugely restricting the use of my phone. I am now day on 13,200 words and have 1 section left to write before I do my edits, and I am BUZZING 🤩 . To learn more about the changes I made and the impacts that can have on your writing, see my latest YouTube! (Link in bio✨)

I’m not usually one to work on weekends but last minute changes to this weekend means extra work to finish off the results section! Made some pancakes to make it feel more like a weekend though🥞 What are your favourite pancake toppings?   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #weekend #saturday #phd #phdlife #phdstudent #phdjourney #phdchat #study #studygram #studyspo #studyblr #studying #brunch #breakfast #pancakes #chocolate #nutella #banana #coffee #workfromhome #blog #blogger #igers #studynotes #research #academia

I hope you all had a good weekend! This week's #ToxTalksTuesday I'm going to talk a little about toxicity testing methods.⠀ .⠀ Testing for toxicity can vary greatly depending on the field of toxicology. But, no matter what sub-field you're in, animal testing is the most common way to get data on toxic substances. Before I go further, I want to premise this by saying that it is never the intention of a moral scientist to hurt animals in any way. But, the truth is, we as scientists do not have the proper models yet to completely move away from animal testing (but I will talk about this in a moment).⠀ .⠀ In the case of human toxicology, we can't just use other humans to conduct testing on. So, we often use rats or mice as models to determine how a drug or other substance effects the body. If you are an ecotoxicologist, you are more likely to use indicator species for your experiments. These are things such as zebra fish, cladocerans, or algae. These species are used because they are often the first sensitive organisms that can indicate there is something toxic in an ecosystem.⠀ .⠀ Like I mentioned before, none of us like using animals for testing. Since around 1990 there has been a push to reduce their use and replace animal models in toxicology studies. This has lead to the creation of new models that may be able to predict the toxicity of a substance. For example, devices known as tissue chips are being developed to serve as models for different systems in the body such as the heart or liver. Another common test method utilizes cells that have been cultured in vitro. In vitro is a term that refers to work done outside of a living organism. But, similarly to tissue chips, cell culture is much less complex than a living organism and therefore may not fully predict the the toxicity of a substance.⠀ .⠀ Many countries like the US, Canada, and EU require that there be comprehensive searches for alternative methods before research involving animals is started. There are also whole divisions of companies and laboratories dedicated to identifying animal testing alternatives. This is such an important area within the study of toxicology!

There is no bad results... or good results... Even Edison tried a lot of material as filament ..and none performed well...except Tungsten..he told that he prooved these materials cannot be used as filaments.. So if you think that your results are bad or it's a failure... Think positive and make those bad results as your results and go ahead... @phdbackyard More is coming...follow us...if you have hope in us 😊✌️ #phd  #phdlife  #dr  #science  #phdstudent  #phdjourney  #phdmemes  #phdtrolls  #heart  #peace  #mind  #love  #pandemic  #covid19  #corona  #virus  #physics  #chemistry  #biology  #nanotechnology  #materialscience #academia #education #lab

Addicted to progress you say...yes...yes, I am! . . I recorded myself performing a move today because in January I would always fall over while doing it, today I could up my weight, but my left side is still a little weaker than my right side, so I am being patient. . . #ma60day week 7 day 2🏋🏿‍♀️
