News Update! Entries have started to roll in for what is going to be a great week of world-class karate competition. So far we have participants from the following countries registered to participate: AUSTRALIA BARBADOS CANADA CAYMAN ISLANDS ENGLAND GHANA INDIA JAMAICA KENYA NIGERIA NORTHERN IRELAND PAKISTAN SRI LANKA SCOTLAND TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO 1- Entries to the CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS will be capped so clubs need to get their entries in, confirmed and paid for. Please remember to complete the registration process to ensure your entries are accepted before the deadlines. 2- Spectator tickets will come available in the next couple of weeks and will also be limited. We expect the venue to sell out so organisers do not expect to have any “on-the-door” tickets available. @commonwealthkaratechampionship @commonwealthkaratefederation @worldkaratefederation #commonwealth #commonwealthkaratefederation #commonwealthkaratechampionship #commonwealthkaratechampionship2022 #friendlygames #birmingham2022 #ckfchampionships #bostwana2023 #karate #kata #kumite #uob #universityofbirmingham #university #birmingham #thisisbirmingham

COMMONWEALTH GAMES ENGLAND SUPPORTS THE CKF’S SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION FOR CGF SANCTIONING! Last month the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) sanctioned the Commonwealth Karate Championships following a lengthy application process that was supported by Commonwealth Games England and the World Karate Federation. This exciting news permits two subtle, yet significant, changes in branding - Firstly, going forward, the elite event will be formally known as the ‘Commonwealth Karate Championships 2022’ to align with the CGF policies. (The club championships will retain 2020 in its title acknowledging the year in which it was originally scheduled, as per Tokyo 2020.) Secondly, the CGF have approved the use of the official ‘Commonwealth Sport’ logo on the elite medal. This is a great milestone! It demonstrates the CKF’s commitment to pursue the ambition of full Commonwealth Games inclusion, and the confidence of the CGF in the legacy of the Commonwealth Karate Championships. As a result of this momentous achievement, we look forward to welcoming Mr Antonio Espinós, President of the WKF, and Prof. Geoff Thompson MBE DL, Deputy Chair of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, so once again we call upon all CKF nations to support this important showcase event. Please share this great news with your delegations and friends. Session: Sleep and Rest Management Presenter: Andrew Morley (Lead Sleep Physiologist & Manager for Greater Glasgow & Clyde) Date/Time: Sunday 20th February 2022 (3:00pm UK-time) Hi All, Just a reminder of the upcoming first session in Season 2 of the VKO on Sunday 20th Feb. We are delighted to have Andrew Morley (see bio below) presenting this session on sleep and rest. With almost one third of our lives spent asleep it is a major part of our lives. The quality of our sleep has a huge impact on the time we are awake. Effective sleep and rest management can provide improvements to all other aspects of our daily lives – not just karate. The Sleep & Rest Management session will have benefits for all male and female karateka in their sport endeavours and their wider lives – from young, white belts at grass-root level, all the way up to world-class athletes and coaches. I request you circulate these details widely and encourage attendees from all levels within your federations to attend this fascinating and informative session. During the call, please do the following: • Put your cameras on (internet connection permitting) and your microphones off – this helps the presenter interact better with the audience • Put your name and country in your window on the call - this helps us see the level of attendance from across the Commonwealth • If you have questions during the presentation, put them into the chat box and we will answer them in groups during the presentation • There will be 30mins after the presentation for further questions and discussion Should you need any further information please do not hesitate to get in touch at [email protected] Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you on Feb 20th
