Arts Centre Melbourne is pleased to announce a landmark $15 million donation by The Ian Potter Foundation. It’s the single largest philanthropic donation to an Australian performing arts centre. This record-breaking gesture will contribute to the refurbishment of the State Theatre, as well as significant upgrades to the Theatres Building (under the Spire), as part of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation.
In recognition of this landmark gift, the theatre will be renamed the Ian Potter State Theatre when it reopens.
For almost a decade, Sir Ian Potter served on the Building Committee (formed in 1957), which planned and delivered what would become Arts Centre Melbourne. Now, more than 60 years later, the heritage-listed theatre will carry his name.
One of Melbourne's most beloved bands, The Cat Empire, teams up with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for a celebratory performance at Hamer Hall.
Performing new material as well as classics re-invented for the orchestral world, these shows will draw on the vibrant worlds of Afro-Cuban, Seychellois Kreol, Brazilian and flamenco music. Only at Hamer Hall.
