🔻The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the Israeli occupation army arrested and imprisoned an 82-year-old Palestinian woman named Fahmiyeh Al-Khalidi in Gaza under a law aimed at arresting illegal combatants. According to the report, Al-Khalidi, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, was taking shelter in a school in Gaza after being forcibly displaced due to the ongoing war on Gaza.
According to a report by the British website Middle East Eye, Thursday, February 1, 2024, Al-Khalidi was arrested and imprisoned in December, under the Unlawful Combatants Imprisonment Law, and was transferred to the Israeli Damon Prison. She was released on January 19.
Fahmiyeh’s caregiver, who had to stay with her at all times, was also arrested since her children live abroad, is still arrested.
🔻While many details related to Fahmiyeh’s arrest and detention are still unknown, because she had difficulty remembering what happened to her since her release.
Also, reports indicate that Fahmiyah was sometimes handcuffed and in a wheelchair due to her difficulty walking.
🔻The Israeli newspaper reported, citing various other reports, that she was not the only elderly and disabled person detained in Israeli prisons.
🔻After her release, a Palestine TV reporter interviewed Fahmiyeh and another female detainee. They said they had been interrogated “for ten minutes for several days” in a center described as “in the mountains.”
For its part, the Palestinian Authority’s Authority for Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs confirmed, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, that at least 142 female prisoners - including elderly women and
#infants - are currently detained in Israeli prisons.
The Commission warned in a joint statement with the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club that “horrific crimes” were being committed against female prisoners.
