Joyeux quatorze juillet! Let’s celebrate this French holiday with one of our favorite Gallic designers, Hubert de Givenchy. The first photo by Jack Garofolo shows devoted Givenchy client Audrey Hepburn and husband Mel Ferrer at the designer’s fashion show in Paris, 1955. The model may look like she’s wearing a wrap, but an illustration in L’Officiel magazine (March, 1955) shows it’s actually a dramatic chapeau with billowing red chiffon panels. Swipe again, and you’ll see this stunning design is in the FIDM Museum collection! And there’s more: during a 1955 trip to Madrid, Hepburn is pictured with Ferrer wearing the same dress from the Givenchy fashion show...do you think she might have purchased the hat as well? . . . . . #fidmmuseum #Joyeuxquatorzejuillet #quatorzejuillet #bastilleday #givenchy #fashionhistory #hubertdegivenchy #frenchdesign #frenchcouture #frenchfashion #audreyhepburn #melferrer #jackgarofolo #1950sfashion #50sfashion #fashionmuseum #couturehat #audreyhepburnstyle
The model in the first picture looks like Carolina Herrera.
