“I want to prove that you can still be vulnerable and authentically you in the music industry. I think we’re past the age where everything needs to be shiny and polished all the time.” —Musician SEKOU (
@sekoumusic )
Hailing from the small town of Ashby in Leicestershire, England, SEKOU has already been recognized as a “voice of his generation” at just 19 years old. “I think my music is raw and honest. What you see is what you get with me. The honesty in my music is what makes it unique to me, with a little bit of mystery in there, too.”
After being discovered while performing in a parking lot in 2021, SEKOU played the Glastonbury Festival in 2022 and made this year’s BRIT Awards Rising Star shortlist. And while he’s tipped for greatness, SEKOU sings from the heart. “I make art mostly for myself, as an outlet. Sometimes I find it hard to talk about emotions and it’s easier to make that into art.”
@sekoumusic is one of 24 young, unique, difference-makers and catalysts we love who is sparking the cultural zeitgeist.
